CommunitiesThat Care of Lorain County is overseen by an Executive Committiee. The role of the Executive Committiee ito implement the Strategic Preventon Framework for Lorain County:

  1. Assessment:  Collect data to define problems, resources and readiness to address needs and gaps
  2. Capacity:  Mobilize and/or build capacity to address needs
  3. Planning:  Develop a comprehensive strategic plan that includes policies, programs adn practices creating a logical data-driven plan to address the problems idenfitied
  4. Implementation:  Implement evidence-based prevention programs, policies and practices
  5. Evaluation:  Measure the impact of the SPF and its implemented programs, policies and practices
This group meets monthly, 1st Tuesday of the month. 

Problem Statement

Alcohol is the most common drug of choice by Lorain County's youth, followed by cigarettes, marijauna, and prescription medications.

Communities That Care of Lorain County has identified the following strategies  to reduce the prioritized risk factors, increase protective factors and focus on substance abuse prevention:

  • Information dissemination to adults about laws and consequences of underage alcohol consumption
  • Enhancing Barriers/Reducing Access to alcohol
  • Provide support to retailers who sell alcohol
  • Change physical design of local festivals where liquor is served
  • Change Consequences - partner with law enforcement on compliance strategies
  • Modify/Enhance policies (ordinances, drug free schools, etc)
  • Assess and modify physical design - alcohol outlet density in communities
  • Enhance skills of parents, older siblings, educators, students and others
  • Provide support to families, parents and youth
  • change community practices and systems to engage in comprehensive substance abuse prevention
  • Ehnance access for available preveniton programming
  • Enhance skills by offering trainings in communities
  • Reduce access to prescription medications
  • Provide support to constituents for advocacy efforts
  • Change physical design to reduce access to paraphernaila and look-alikes (K-2, Spice, etc)
