Ban on Synthetic Marijuana (e.g. K2, Spice) and Bath Salts Takes
Effect
A new
law banning the sale and possession of “bath salts”
and synthetic marijuana products such as “K2” and
“Spice” took effect today. House Bill 64, signed by
Gov. John Kasich in July, adds synthetic marijuana
products and six synthetic derivatives of cathinone
that have been found in bath salts to the list of
Schedule 1 controlled substances. These products had
been sold legally in gas stations, novelty shops and
convenience stores. The substances have been blamed
for an uptick in calls to poison control centers and
a surge in emergency room visits nationwide. For
more about the ban, read the Associated Press
